JANN HÖFER - THIS BELONGS TO YOU
Jann Höfer (b. 1986) is a freelance photographer based in Cologne, Germany who works in the field of reportage, documentary, and portrait photography. He holds a BA in Photographic Studies and is currently enrolled in the Photographic MA at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Dortmund, Germany.
By photographing all the things that remain, Höfer’s body of work focuses on portraying that what is no longer present. A strong sense of empathy gives him the opportunity to tell stories of his protagonists in the most honest way. Höfer is also interested in the notion of trauma and how it affects the self-development and ways of living.
His photographic series „This belongs to you" attempts to document the emotional state of two generations in Iran. The gap between both is filled with incomprehension and unspoken resentment. The young generation sees themselves as victims of the actions of the past revolutionaries. On the other hand, the older generation feels they are victims of the system and the people in power. Both of them united in silent hope.
