Graduated from Atelier de Sèvres Art School in 2015 and from Spéos Photography School in 2017, Alizée Bauer (b. 1996, France) finds her inspiration as she explores subjects of a mystical and existential nature. Her photographs are dark, esoteric and slow to witness, being a resemblance of some kind of poetry created in dim circumstances.

In her series ‘Tangled Branches’, she follows her grandfather on a hunt in South Africa. After such an encounter, Bauer started to question the values advocated by her family and those of herself. The work explores the violent contradictions that mingle between hunting scenes and Bauer’s inner views. Highlighted with a carnal colour palette, her photographs capture nature that is the target of both Bauer’s lens and of her grandfather’s gun. Mingling somewhere between violence, death, family and confrontation, Bauer’s photographs leave her viewers in discomfort.

Bauer participated in a couple of exhibitions, showcasing her work at La Galerie du Club in Arles, France, at Lightbox Gallery in Woking, the UK and at Atkinson Gallery, the UK. She currently studies for her Master of Fine Arts and Photography Degree at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, United Kingdom.
